Registration for all programs is required one week in advance. Call (216) 791-8118 and the correct extension listed at the end of each activity.

Everyone is welcome. Schedule may change. Registered clients will be contacted if cancellation occurs. Transportation is available for 2 activities to any new participant. One guest is always welcome as participants become acquainted with recreation programs, staff and facilities.

NOTE: Auditorium, Bowling Alley, Courtyard, Cozier Lounge, Crafts Room, Cristal Lounge, Library, Lobby and Smith Lounge are all locations found at Cleveland Sight Center, 1909 East 101st Street in Cleveland. Locations outside the Sight Center are noted.

Make a reservation to visit  the Recreation staff. We can explore your community recreation, explain and provide a sample of Sight Center activities, and broaden your knowledge of recreation on a regional or national level for people with vision loss. Call (216) 791-8118, x226.

important notice for clients

Beginning in January, clients who participate in any Recreation events, programs or activities will be asked to complete and return a Medical Treatment Release form and an Authorization to Attend form. You will only need to do this one time during the year. These forms will provide valuable information to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone, including clients, staff and volunteers.

MAY ACTIVITIES SCHEDULE

CROCHET & CRAFT DAY  

Tuesday, May 13, 20 and 27 ~ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm ~ Sight Center Crafts Room. Work on personal projects or projects for the community. Learn and share craft and crochet skills. Session ends May 27 - new session begins in September. Call x226.

BOOK DISCUSSION GROUPS  

Morning Group: Monday, May 5 ~ 10:00 am - 11:30 am (refreshments beginning at 9:30 am)
Afternoon Group: Monday, May 5 ~ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Call x226 for your books on tape. Book Discussion Groups meet once a month on the first Monday of each month. Session ends May 5th - new seesion begins August 2008.

LINE DANCING  

Monday, May 5, 12 and 19 ~ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm ~ Sight Center. Exercise at your own pace.  Increase your strength, flexibility and endurance in a supportive environment. Come in to teach others new steps, laugh and learn. Deb Peterson is our facilitator. Session ends May 19 - new session begins August 2008. Call x226.

SCULPTURE CLASS  

Saturday, May 3 ~ 9:30 am - 11:30 am ~ Sight Center. Create a beautiful piece of pottery, make jewelry, weave with raffia and let your imagination soar. Sculpture Class meets once a month on Saturdays. Session ends June 7th. Call x226.

CLEVELAND ORCHESTRA MUSIC STUDY GROUPS  

Eastside: Tuesday, May 6, 13, 20 and 27 ~ 1:00 pm - 2:45 pm ~ College Club.
Westside: Wednesday, May 6, 13, 20 and 27 ~ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm ~ Fairview Park Regional Library.
Music Studies Groups meet to listen, study, and discuss classical music performed by the Cleveland Orchestra for the 2007 – 2008 season.
Orchestra Matinees: Attend free Friday matinee concerts with class members on May 9 and 23. Arrive at Sight Center at 9:30 am; return to Sight Center around 12:30 pm. Lecture guides in large print, Braille or on tape will be yours with your $50 season subscription. Register now for fall season, beginning September 2008. Call x226.

BRAILLE NOTES CHOIR  

Practices: Wednesday, May 14, 21 and 28 ~ 10:30 am - 2:00 pm ~ Smith Lounge.
Performance: Wednesday, May 22 ~ 10:30 am.
Workshop: Wednesday, June 4 ~ 10:30 am - 2:00 pm ~ Highbrook Lodge.
Braille Note Choir members practice and perform on Wednesdays throughout the year. Music is available in Braille, large print and on tape. If music lifts your spirits, if you play an instrument, and if you like to get other people’s feet tapping to a good tune, you can be a member. Transportation will be available to all public performances. The Choir is searching for new voices and an auxiliary piano director. Please give us a call - we need you! Call x226.

DRAMA CLUB  

Practices: Thursday, May 1, 15, 22 and 29 ~ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm ~ Smith Lounge.
Performance: Thursday, May 8 ~ 1:00 pm ~ Sight Center auditorium.
Seating begins at 12:30 pm. Call x226.

TANDEM BIKE AND HIKE  

Saturday, May 17 ~ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm ~ Hunt Farm, Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Transportation, equipment, snacks and beverages - $10 fee. Extended program, picnic in September. Register now! Session ends September 20th. Call x226.

CLEVELAND SCRAPPERS - BEEP BASEBALL  

The greater Cleveland beep baseball team, the Scrappers need fast, competitive fun-loving players (both men and women) to help set the pace for a winning 2008 season. Enjoy the competition against other teams, locally and nationally. Meet new people and build your strength and stamina as you cover the bases. Beep Baseball can be a family affair as parents and kids contribute to the team effort. Contact Russ Mullins at (216) 543-4172 or Richard Benesh at (216) 251-4899 with your questions. SPECIAL EVENTS

VOYAGEUR CANOE PADDLE  

Saturday, May 24 ~ depart Cleveland Sight Center at 9:00 am; return at 4:30 pm ~ Hinckley Reservation. Enjoy a hike and lunch. Two hour boat ride begins at 1:00 pm. Boating and transportation fee - $20. Participants must be able to hike and paddle. Seating is limited. In collaboration with The Insstitute of The Great Outdoors. Call x226.

ROWING  

Crewing with the Western Reserve Rowing Association on the Cuyahoga River begins in June. The WRRA boathouse is located at 1948 Carter Street in the Flats. Be a team member and work all your muscles as you push off with your legs and row with your arms down the river. Requirements: life jacket, study of boathouse rules, weight of less than 250 lbs. AHOY ALL SAILORS, SKIPPERS AND MATES!

May 18 ~ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm ~ Sight Center. Meeting to launch our sailing season. You must register for this dinner meeting by May 1st - contact Erin Peterson by calling x227. 

GOLF PROGRAM

GOLF OUTINGS  

Tuesdays ~ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Outings take place at driving ranges and golf courses on the east and west sides of Cleveland. Golfers pay all greens fees and cart costs. Volunteer spotters do not play. Professional instruction is provided two times a month at the Washington Golf Learning Center. The 2008 schedule will be available at the April 29 banquet. Players are encouraged to recruit a driver/volunteer spotter.

SOCIAL CLUB MEETINGS

If you have not joined a social club, but would like to learn more about it, contact Jeri Rask at (216) 791-8118, x226. Participants are encouraged to use paratransit, or invite a friend or relative driver. One guest is always welcome to attend with a client.

WINNERS CLUB

The NEWLY CREATED consolidated Sight Center social club!
The Winners Club will meet on Tuesdays with volunteer support from the Palmer Committee on May 6 ~ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm ~ Cleveland Sight Center. Prepare for 1:00 pm departure if using Sight Center transportation. Lunch and entertainment provided.

SOUTHWEST CLUB

Parma, Parma Hts., Brookpark
Luncheon on Friday, May 2 ~ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm ~ Parma Senior Center, 7001 W. Ridgewood Drive. Meet new friends in Parma, Strongsville and Brooklyn with vision loss. Call x226.

ANCHOR CLUB
