PRESCRIPTION ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

The Medicine Program assists people to enroll in one or more of the many patient assistance programs that provide prescription medicine free-of-charge to those in need. Patients must meet the sponsor's criteria. The program is conducted in cooperation with the patient's doctor.

Partnership for Prescription Assistance offers a single point of access to more than 475 public and private patient assistance programs, including more than 150 programs offered by pharmaceutical companies.

Contact local Wal-Mart, Giant Eagle or Discount Drug Mart for low cost generic medications ($4.00 to $4.50 for a 30-day supply). Applicant must have valid identification (driver's license or state ID). For Giant Eagle, the applicant must first apply for an Advantage Card.

Ohio's Best Rx. You and your family members may be able to get discounts on prescription drugs by enrolling in Ohio's Best Rx program. Any Ohioan may enroll in Best Rx: if he or she is age 60 or older, and does not have prescription drug coverage for all of the drugs he or she needs (for example, Medicare Part D or Workers Comp), regardless of income level; or if he or she is age 59 or under, does not have prescription drug coverage for all of the drugs he or she needs (for example, Medicare Part D or Workers Comp), and has family income that is at or under the income limits shown below:

2-person family: $3,423 monthly or $41,070 yearly
3-person family: $4,293 monthly or $51,510 yearly

Ohio Health Insurance Information program (OSHIIP)
This program provides health insurance information and services to Medicare beneficiaries and the people who care for them.

Together Rx Access. This company assists with diabetic supplies such as meters, lances, test strips and more at 40-60% off the usual and customary prices. They also have many of the popular brand name medications (not generic) on their list. It is based on single family income at or below $30,000 annual income. They will send you a plastic card to use at the pharmacy if eligible.

Generic medication information. To find out if brand name medication has a generic equivalent, go to www.fda.gov/cder/ob and type in the name of the drug. If there is a generic form, both names will appear.
