EMPLOYMENT & CAREER SERVICES
Cleveland Sight Center Employment Services helps adults who are blind or visually impaired seeking career opportunities. Through advanced technology, accommodations are available for almost all occupations, and people with visual impairments are now able to utilize their talents and share their skills in the workplace. Through the following services, opportunities for personal and professional growth are created, resulting in a dedicated, productive employee.

Career Exploration
The primary focus of Career Exploration is to determine what a person’s career interests are and what skills they currently have so that a realistic career goal can be made. The process may include interest and skill assessments, learning resources for researching jobs, preparation and connection with information interviews and job shadowing experiences.
Job Readiness
The program prepares the job seeker for the job market. Instruction is provided in completing applications, practice job interviewing, resume development, understanding employer expectations, cover letters, learning how to network, accessing the Internet and other resources to best prepare job seekers for work.
Job Development
The employment staff will contact and network with local businesses to educate prospective employers on programs and services.
Job Placement
Job Placement assists and supports job seekers with the job search. Leads are developed through continual job development, networking and employer education. The job seeker works closely with one Employer Service staff member. The job seeker is encouraged, taught and supported to develop opportunities independently with the assistance of the Employment Service staff member.
Job Retention
Once a permanent job is secured, the “new employee” will be monitored for 90 days after beginning the job. The service will assist new employee by providing individual transitional support, which may include adaptive accommodations, a job coach when needed and mobility instruction if needed.
Community Based Work Experience
Community Based Work Experience is a four to eight week program. A job seeker may have limited work experience or contemplating making a career change and would benefit from a job within a community work setting. The job seekers is adjusting to the world of work at the same time being evaluated on work performance, which includes performance productivity, stamina, work quality, on-task behavior, accepting authority, following directions and work social skills. Measurable objectives are determined to allow for improvement during the four to eight week experience. Email Community Based Work Experience.
Facility Based Work Experience
The purpose of the program is to assess the job seeker’s work behaviors. Facility Based Work Experience is provided on site at Cleveland Sight Center. The focus is to allow the employment specialist to observe if the job seeker is working toward a possible vocational goal. This program is one to two weeks.
Comprehensive Vocational Evaluation System
A thorough evaluation is completed to identify strengths and weaknesses in areas pertaining to learning, problem solving and achievements, along with sensory and motor abilities. The outcome provides a detailed evaluation of job seekers’ abilities, which assist them in the near future in selecting a realistic career goal.
