Meet Our Team

Jenny Schaeffer, Camp Manager

Growing up, the summer camps I attended were my salvation. They were the only place where I felt that I could truly be myself; make friends effortlessly; learn and develop skills; feel capable and confident; and experience immeasurable joy. Sure -- camp always had its ups and downs, but regardless, the experiences I had each summer at camp were some of the most influential and positive moments of my life. Now, I am so honored to be at the helm of Highbrook Lodge where I can use my aptitudes for program management to make this ring true for others.

Before coming to Highbrook, I served as an integral team-member for a city-wide mentoring organization in Pittsburgh, called ‘Strong Women, Strong Girls’. I also happily spent two summers as the Program Director for ‘Camp Walden’. Between these summers, I backpacked solo across the South Pacific and completed my Master’s degree at the University of Limerick – studying youth, community, and social regeneration. These experiences undoubtedly improved my understanding of diverse lived experiences, youth development, community activism, and social justice initiatives.

Additionally, I feel a strong connection to individuals who have difficulties with their eyesight, as I have had two very important people in my life with vision loss or blindness. These relationships have shown me the importance and force of self-empowerment, autonomy, flexibility, and empathy. I admire the fact that the Highbrook Lodge focuses on building confidence and self-sufficiency while immersing campers in the peaceful surroundings that only nature can provide.

And finally, I hope that you will trust either yourself or your camper with me and my dedicated team this summer. We all aspire to provide quality recreational programming and I am confident that together we possess the skills, ability, and drive to execute an enjoyable environment for Highbrook Lodge and its campers.

Vince Williams, Recreation Specialist/Assistant Camp Manager

When I look back at my past jobs, there is one thing they all have in common - an ultimate goal of helping others. I love doing work that does something good for my community, and I feel I am at my best when I am in a mission-driven environment, particularly when that mission involves encouraging individuals to immerse themselves in great experiences. For these reasons, I am thrilled to be a part of the Cleveland Sight Center team as a Recreation Specialist and Assistant Camp Manager at Highbrook Lodge.

Growing up in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, I spent countless summers exploring my neighborhood, thinking up new ways to find adventure. That desire for exploration followed me into adulthood. My first job was working as a summer day camp supervisor, and my time in that position led me to pursue a degree in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management at Kent State University.

In my post-college years, I have primarily worked for nonprofits, which have provided me with many meaningful opportunities involving human connection, community, inclusivity, and diversity. During this time, I was also incredibly fortunate to spend time working with diverse populations in Kentucky, West Virginia and Managua, Nicaragua. I think my greatest takeaway from the nonprofit world is that there is no limit on what we can do for one another, so long as we are willing to put in the time and the effort. In this respect, I hope to pay forward my own education and understandings of recreation and provide visitors to the Cleveland Sight Center their own fantastic adventures.

My goal is to put on top-notch programming, focusing on exciting and innovative ideas that bring people together. I am prepared to provide the best experiences possible for all of our clients both at the center and at camp.

On a personal note, I am a lover of all things Cleveland, and I enjoy discovering new things in my city. Much of my free time is spent hiking, biking, kayaking, and hanging with my fluffy, energetic Siberian Husky, Echo.

Kevin Pye, Camp Ranger

As the Camp Ranger of Highbrook Lodge for the past 5 years, I get so much satisfaction out of ensuring that camp is in the best shape it can be. I also love hearing our campers say that they look forward to camp all year long – so I work hard to guarantee that we as staff are able to provide them with the best experience possible!

Over the course of my time at the Lodge, I’ve worked diligently to maintain and improve our 60+ acre camp year-round. I also receive the same training as all of our summer-staff members, and I uphold several certifications (like CPR, AED, and First Aid, and Certified Pool Operator).

Originally from Bemus Point, New York,  I’ve called Ohio home for the past 38 years. My hobbies include riding my motorcycle, being outdoors, and working with my hands.
