Cleveland Sight Center Announces Planned Retirement of President and CEO Larry Benders

CLEVELAND, Ohio | May 12, 2026: The Cleveland Sight Center Board of Directors announced today that President and CEO Larry Benders plans to retire on December 31, 2026, following more than 11 years of leadership and service to the organization.

Since joining Cleveland Sight Center in 2015, Benders has overseen a period of significant organizational growth and impact. Under his leadership, CSC expanded its team and services, nearly doubled its operating budget, grew its endowment substantially and secured several of the largest philanthropic investments in the organization’s 120-year history.

He also led important statewide advocacy efforts, successfully advocating for White Canes to be classified as durable medical equipment covered by Medicaid in Ohio, the first and only state in the nation to do so.

“Larry’s leadership has positioned Cleveland Sight Center for long-term strength and success,” said Erin Ploucha, Board Chair of Cleveland Sight Center. “His vision, commitment to innovation and dedication to the individuals and families we serve have helped elevate CSC’s impact throughout Northeast Ohio and across the state. We are incredibly grateful for his service and leadership.”

The Board of Directors has been actively preparing for the transition and will launch a formal search process to identify the organization’s next President and CEO. Benders will continue serving in his role throughout the transition process to support continuity and ensure a seamless leadership handoff.

“It has been an extraordinary privilege to serve Cleveland Sight Center and work alongside such a dedicated staff, Board, volunteers and community of supporters,” said Benders. “I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together over the past 11 years and remain deeply confident in CSC’s future. The organization is well positioned to continue growing its impact and advancing its mission for years to come.”
